We just got a new wal-mart 4 months ago right next to my office. It's kinda nice having a cheap place to buy office supplies right next door. They have also brought about 200 jobs to our community which is always nice to have. Great information!

Wal-Mart always builds where they see growth potential. Anytime you see a Wal-Mart going up, the area is about to boom!

@Logan Homes - Walmart does offer a lot of affordable prices on items. Which is always helpful, especially in a slow economy.
@Ashlee - Great point. We are thinking the exact same thing. The Apex area is getting ready to explode with new housing and commercial opportunities

I feel conflicted about Walmart. As a consumer, they are terrific as they do offer the lowest prices around. But, as a business that runs the moms and pops out of business it's hard to stand up for them. But, then again, I guess competition is what drives our economy and Walmart represents both the upside and downside of this.

Sorry I guess I'm coming into this discussion kind of late, but I just stumbled upon it. This is a really hard issue. I agree that a Walmart is probably an indication that the area might be about to boom. So I guess strictly from a business/economic standpoint, this is good for those of us involved in the real estate business. But I also think that Walmart running smaller local businesses into the ground is a bad thing. Soon all of our neighborhoods are going to be exactly the same - just bland and surrounded by giant corporations. So the quality of our neighborhoods is being changed. After a while it might be hard to sell homes because they are all going to be the same - in the same kinds of neighborhoods, surrounded by the same kinds of amenities, etc. In the long run, it might be better for the real estate business if more variety were maintained. Obviously I'm overreacting somewhat, not EVERY neighborhood has a Walmart in it. It's just something I've been thinking about.
